Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Today marks the beginning of your exceptional 8 days Rwanda wildlife safari  or 8 days Rwanda safari. A driver guide from gorilla-safaris.com will meet you at your hotel or at Kigali International Airport upon your arrival.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park – Rwanda Wildlife Safari

This morning, we will depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda, with a scheduled stop for lunch in Huye. Huye is home to the ethnographic museum of Rwanda, previously recognized as the national museum of Rwanda. Explore the rich culture and history of the Rwandan people. We will arrive in Nyungwe Forest later in the evening.

Travel duration – 5 hours or by helicopter (Robinson/Augusta) – 45 minutes/35 minutes

Day 3: Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest offers an immersive experience, allowing you to explore the depths of the forest and fully appreciate the beauty of nature. Please ensure your presence at the briefing point by 6:00 AM. You will be provided with guidelines on appropriate conduct and the anticipated duration of your trek. Nyungwe Forest boasts a remarkable array of botanical diversity and serves as a habitat for 13 species of primates.

Your guide will direct you to either the Uwinka trailhead or the Cyamudongo sector for chimp trekking.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the Uwinka centre to commence your canopy walk as you further explore the park.

Day 4: Colobus Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Begin with trekking the Colobus monkeys, followed by a departure to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. A briefing will be provided by the community guides, after which you will commence your experience in the forest.

Experience the scenic beauty of Lake Kivu and the meandering roads in this region known for its numerous hills.

Travel duration by car is 5 hours, while a helicopter ride takes only 35 minutes.

Day 5: Gorillas in the Mist – Rwanda Wildlife Expedition

Encounter the mountain gorillas within the lush jungles of the Virunga ranges. The journey to observe the gorillas commences with a detailed briefing at the park headquarters.  A ranger and a gorilla family will be assigned to you for your trek. The trek to see the gorillas in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is a remarkable experience. The duration of the gorilla trek may range from one hour to several hours. It is advisable to maintain a certain level of fitness to fully enjoy this experience.  It is important to maintain a steady pace while trekking to observe the gorillas.

Following this experience, consider visiting a cultural group or cultural village, or engaging in a community walk.

Day 6: Golden Monkey trekking and Transfer to Akagera National park

Embark on a morning adventure in Volcanoes National Park, engaging in a golden monkey trekking experience. Please return to the park headquarters for a briefing prior to being assigned to a group. Observe these dynamic primates as they forage and move from one location to another.

Following this experience, proceed to Akagera National Park with brief stopovers en route for photography and restroom breaks.

Optional: night game drive to observe nocturnal wildlife.

Travel duration – 2 hours and 30 minutes, or by helicopter (Augusta) – 30 minutes.

Day 7: Explore Akagera National Park

AKagera National Park is a savannah park situated in northeastern Rwanda, adjacent to the border with Tanzania. This location hosts several large mammals that are unique to Rwanda. Commence with a morning game drive.  Be attentive to the presence of elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, and the recently introduced lions.

The game drives in Akagera National Park typically occur in the northern sector of the park. The duration of the game drives may extend for nearly a full day, contingent upon the animal sightings and your preferences.

Day 8: Conclusion of the Rwanda Wildlife Safari

Today marks the conclusion of your 8 days Rwanda wildlife safari. start your day with breakfast before proceeding to the airport for your departure flight.
