Detailed 10 days Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival, overnight at Entebbe.

You will be collected from Entebbe International Airport upon your arrival and transported to your accommodation in Entebbe, where you can recuperate from your flight-induced fatigue.

Day 2: Transit to Kibale National Reserve 

 

On Day 2 of the 10 days Uganda Gorilla trekking & Masai Mara Safari, you will be picked up early from your hotel in Entebbe by one of our safari guides, who will provide a brief overview of the trip before embarking on an exhilarating 350 km journey, lasting 6 to 7 hours, to Kibale National Park, one of Uganda’s premier wildlife destinations. While appreciating this drive, you will encounter other Ugandans engaged in their daily routines. Upon your arrival in Fort Portal town, you will have a lunch break featuring a selection of continental cuisine crafted from freshly sourced ingredients. Following your lavish lunch, you will continue your journey to your accommodation. You will be greeted at your lodge in Kibale by the warm, pleasant, and smiling faces of the staff, who will escort you to your room. You will spend the remainder of the evening free to recuperate from these extensive excursion to the park. Dinner will be served later in the evening, after which you will return to your accommodation for the night in anticipation of seeing the intriguing chimpanzees the next day.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking, a Bigodi wetland excursion, and a community walk.

The morning commences with an exceptional breakfast designed to invigorate you for the exhilarating chimpanzee trekking that lies ahead. Your guide will escort you to the Kanyanchu wildlife center, where you will receive a brief overview of the chimpanzee trekking experience. Accompanied by a park ranger, commence a jungle trek in pursuit of the remarkable chimpanzees.

The day’s highlight will be the opportunity to encounter these fascinating beings, where you will be astonished by the similarities we share with these great apes, as they exhibit laughter, embrace, and kiss, similar to human behavior, while also nurturing their offspring. In addition to the chimpanzees, one should not overlook the opportunity to observe several other primates inhabiting this forest, including the black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and grey monkeys. Upon concluding the hour-long chimpanzee encounter, return to the park center where your trekking endeavors are acknowledged with a trekking certificate. After a lunch break, continue on to the Bigodi community, where you can interact with the locals and observe how they go about their daily lives. You can even watch them or participate in some of their everyday activities, like picking coffee or making local brew. As you participate in this community thriller, you will be able to witness the entire coffee-making process, from planting to harvesting red ripe coffee berries, sun-drying, pounding, and finally brewing your own freshly brewed cup of coffee using the coffee that these locals grow.

Day 4: Kibale National Park – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today, you will get the opportunity to see gorillas during a remarkable gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National park, allowing you to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat. You will spend an hour observing these magnificent creatures to comprehend their habits, which are not dissimilar to our own. In the afternoon, upon your return from the trip, you will have leisure time to rest at the lodge.

Day 6: Proceed to Kisoro/Kihihi airfield to Entebbe to connect with your flight to Nairobi.

On this da6 of the 10 days  Uganda Gorilla trekking & Masai Mara Safari, you will be transferred to Kisoro airstrip and fly back to Entebbe airport to connect with your aircraft to Nairobi, Kenya, arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Your safari guide will collect you in Kenya and transport you to your hotel in Nairobi.

Day 7: Journey To Masai Mara National Reserve

The day starts with a transfer to Masai Mara. The Masai Mara is located approximately 260 kilometers away, requiring a trip of 4 to 5 hours. Upon your arrival at Masai Mara, you will proceed to the Lodge. Masai Mara National Reserve is designed to provide an encounter with some of the Big Five inhabitants, including the African elephants, the largest terrestrial mammals; the lions, often observed patrolling their territories; the cape buffaloes, which traverse the grasslands of the Masai plains; and the African leopards, renowned for their stealth capabilities that facilitate surprise predation. In addition to the big five, there is an opportunity to observe various wildlife, including wildebeests, plains zebras, and Masai giraffes, among others. Masai Mara possesses the largest concentration of predators compared to any other location in Kenya.

Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve Exploration

The day will begin with a guided morning game drive, exploring game routes that unveil the hidden marvels of Mara.

For birding enthusiasts, Masai Mara is an ideal destination, boasting over 500 bird species. This game drive will undoubtedly provide an excellent opportunity to observe several species, including secretary birds, Sooty Chats, Usambiro barbets, and Swahili Sparrows. After around 3-4 hours of continuous exploring, you will return to your resort to recuperate and have lunch. Following lunch, you will return outside to participate in a second game drive to enhance your opportunities for observing other preferred wildlife and avian species. In the evening, you will return to the lodge to dine, after which you may opt to observe the stars illuminating the sky, provided the weather is clear, and listen to the many calls of the wildlife inhabiting the reserve. Subsequently, you may retire to your bed and repose for the day. In addition to game drives, you may select for many other activities in Mara for an additional price, including a thrilling hot air balloon safari that requires an early morning ascent into the skies above Mara. Day 9: Second day of unrestricted game drives

You will have breakfast, followed by a morning game drive, potentially in a different part of the Mara. An afternoon game drive is also available if desired. At an additional cost, you may also decide to visit a Masai community.

A visit to any of these communities on the Mara plains provides an excellent opportunity to engage with the outstanding people who have coexisted with the local wildlife for millennia. You will have the opportunity to engage with Masai warriors, renowned for their exceptional spear-throwing abilities, who were historically esteemed for their bravery, having earned such accolades by successfully hunting lions with their spears. Nonetheless, owing to conservation initiatives, this practice has been predominantly forsaken by many individuals; hence, there is no cause for concern in this respect. You will have the opportunity to experience the rhythmic Masai dance, characterized by the impressive leaps of tall Masai men who maintain a rigid posture throughout their performance.

Day 10: Return to Nairobi
