Detailed 7 Days Gorilla trekking, Chimpanzee tracking, Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park

Following breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will depart for Kibale Forest National Park via Mityana-Mubende. During the journey, you will eat lunch in Fort Portal, followed by a brief tour of the town. Explore the crater lakes, Toro Palace, and Karambi tombs. Accommodation and dinner at Kibale Safari Lodge, Primates Lodge, or Ndali Lodge for luxury options; Chimps Nest for mid-range; and Chimpanzee Guest House for budget-friendly accommodations.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest and a trek to Bigodi Swamp

Following breakfast, you will be led by representatives from the Uganda Wildlife Authority on a briefing about chimpanzees. The rangers will instruct you on proper walking techniques and appropriate conduct within the forest. The next step is to enter the forest and begin looking for the chimpanzees. These big apes are seen as humanity’s closest relatives due to their shared traits.

Observe the trees for chimpanzees and other primates, including white colobus monkeys, grey-checked mangabeys, red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, baboons, and many avian species such as the great blue turaco, African pied kingfisher, and malachites, among others. Return to the lodge for lunch following the trip, after which you will embark on the Bigodi swamp walk to observe water-loving avian species. The forest is renowned for its 13 species of monkeys, while the marsh region within it serves as a sanctuary for bird watchers. Return for dinner and an overnight stay at Kibale Safari Lodge, Primates Lodge, or Ndali Lodge for upscale accommodations; Chimps Nest for mid-range options; and Chimpanzee Guest House for budget-friendly lodging.

 

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Following a complete breakfast, you will depart from Kibale Forest National Park and proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The tour will offer several breathtaking vistas of the Mountains of the Moon. You will arrive in the park by a game drive, providing you to observe various animals and their behaviors at different times. Observe fauna such as elephants, leopards, lions, and kobs. You will arrive at the Mweya park headquarters in the late afternoon, when lunch will be provided. Unwind while taking a brief excursion in the vicinity.

Dinner and overnight accommodations at Mweya Safari Lodge for luxury options, Hippo Hill Camp or Ihamba for mid-range options, and Simba Safari Camp for budget-friendly options.

 

Day 4: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Following breakfast in the early morning, you will embark on a game drive in the Kasenyi area of the park. The game drive will showcase a diverse array of species in the park, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and other antelopes such as bushbucks, waterbucks, and kobs, as well as warthogs.

Subsequently, you will return to your lodge for lunch while awaiting the afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga channel, renowned for having the highest concentration of hippos in Africa. The boat cruise will provide you with sightings of renowned aquatic wildlife such as crocodiles along the riverbanks, elephants drinking, hippos, and various bird species.

Return to the accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay at Mweya Safari resort for luxury accommodations, Hippo Hill Camp for moderately priced options, or Ihamba for budget-friendly lodging, and Simba Safari Camp for budget choices.

 

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

You will embark on the early morning game drive within the park to seek out the early risers and creatures you overlooked during prior excursions. Alternatively, you may opt for chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge. Subsequently, have lunch and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha area, renowned for its unusual tree-climbing lions. While traversing the region, be vigilant for the uncommon tree-climbing lions residing in fig trees. Travel to Buhoma in the evening, where you will relax briefly, dine, and stay overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Gorilla Resort for luxury accommodations; Buhoma Lodge or Lake Kitandara Camp for mid-range options, or Buhoma Community Bandas for budget-friendly lodging.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Following breakfast at the resort, you will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing with the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guides. Following the briefing, the ranger will guide you into the dense, Bwindi impenetrable forest to commence your search for the endangered rare species of Mountain Gorillas. The search for the gorillas consistently resumes at the location where they were last observed the prior day.

Upon arriving at the location of these renowned Mountain Gorillas, you will be permitted to interact with them for a duration of one hour, during which you must maintain utmost stillness in the presence of the gorillas. You are permitted to take photographs and similar actions. It can take you anything from three to eight hours to locate the gorillas, which is a really exhausting experience. Upon encountering these gorillas, you will effortlessly disregard the challenges endured to locate them and instead cherish the positive recollections created during your adventure. Following the encounter, you will arrive late at the resort for dinner and an overnight stay as previously mentioned.

Day 7, Return to Kampala

 

Following an early breakfast at the lodge, you will return to Kampala, having lunch on route in Mbarara town. On your return journey, you will traverse Kabale, sometimes referred to as the Switzerland of Africa due to its hills and picturesque landscapes. Arrive in Kampala in the late evening, with drop-off at your hotel in Kampala.
