Detailed Itinerary for a 14-Day Uganda & Rwanda Gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, golden monkey tracking

 

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport  – transfer to Kampala.

Upon your arrival, our professional guide will receive you and transport you from Entebbe International Airport to your chosen accommodation in Kampala. Evening meal and overnight accommodation at Le Petit Village (luxury), Cassia Lodge (deluxe), or Savannah Suites (budget).

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

Following breakfast, you will be driven to Murchison Falls National Park, where you will have lunch along the way. A visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking is exceptionally gratifying. The driving to the top of Murchison Falls , which takes around two hours, will be the day’s most memorable experience.

One of the wonders of the world is the amazing sight and sound of the Nile pouring through a little gorge.

Evening meal and overnight accommodation at Kabalega Wilderness Lodge (luxury), Pakuba Safari Lodge (deluxe), or Red Chilli Camp (cheap).

Day 3: Game drive and afternoon boat cruise.

Awaken for an early morning game drive, expecting to observe a diverse array of wildlife, including buffalo, elephants, lions, and several antelope species. Return to your resort later for breakfast and lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to the base of the falls to get a closer look at crocodiles, hippos, and other migrating birds along the Albert Nile’s banks. Go back to the lodge in the evening to spend the night.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

In the morning, proceed to Kibale Forest National Park with a leisurely drive through the lush countryside, appreciating the vistas of agricultural plantations and the rift valley escarpment. Overnight at Chimpanzee Guest house (budget)/ Turacco Tree tops (deluxe)/ Crater Safari lodge/ Papaya Lake lodge (luxury)

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and a nature walking.

Proceed to Kanyanchu for a briefing from the park warden in preparation for chimpanzee tracking. Other primates anticipated in this tropical rainforest comprise the grey checked mangabeys, L’Hoest monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and vervet monkeys. A nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, particularly for observing species of birds like the exquisite blue turaco, is worthwhile in the afternoon.

Day 6: Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park on this day.  Upon arrival at the park, a boat tour along the Kazinga Channel is a significant highlight, providing an excellent opportunity to observe diverse wildlife, including migratory and Albertine unique birds, as well as animals such as hippos, elephants, buffaloes, and other antelope species.

Dinner and overnight at Katara Lodge (luxury)/ Park View lodge/ Enganzi lodge (deluxe).

Day 7: Game drive and boat cruise.

On this day, a morning game drive to the northern sector (Kasenyi) will provide an opportunity to observe felines, including leopards and lions, if fortune permits. This road is abundant with large herds of elephants, buffaloes, and several antelope species. Subsequently, return to the lodge for supper in preparation for afternoon activities, which may include a boat tour, chimpanzee trekking in Karlinzu Forest, or exploration of Kyambura Gorge.

Day 8: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi National Park.

After a leisurely breakfast in the morning, depart for the game. Drives in the Ishasha district to locate tree-climbing lions. Depending on the day’s meteorological conditions, you may be fortunate to encounter lions beside the roadway or venture deep into the park in pursuit of them. Traverse the picturesque undulating highlands of Kigezi to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Overnight stay at Mahogany Springs (luxury) / Bwindi Lodge, etc

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters with a packed lunch for a briefing on the guidelines of gorilla interactions, followed by gorilla tracking. Upon your return, you will be transported back to your resort.

Day 10: Drive to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

Cross the Chanika border to Volcanoes National Park.  Accommodation for one night and dinner at Muhabura Hotel (cheap), Davinci Lodge (deluxe), Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, or Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco Lodge (luxury), among others.

Day 11: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali

Commence at 8:00 am with a briefing at the park headquarters, followed by the tracking of golden monkeys or mountain gorillas. Upon return, transfer to Kigali for an overnight stay at either the Five to Five Hotel (deluxe) or the Kigali Serena Hotel (luxury).

Day 12: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Boat Cruise

You will be moved to Akagera National Park in the morning.  Upon arrival at the park, embark on a game drive for wildlife observation.  A boat excursion on Lake Akagera in the afternoon is exceptionally rewarding. Overnight at Ruzizi Tented Lodge (luxury) or Akagera Game Lodge (deluxe)

Day 13: Full day game drives in Akagera National Park

You will enjoy the entire day for wildlife drives in Akagera National Park.  The northern portion of the park features significant concentrations of wildlife species, including the Big Five mammals, which are a major attraction for most tourists.

Day 14: Return to Kigali for departure

Return to Kigali in the morning and, based on your schedule, be dropped off at your hotel or the airport.
